Peter Hart-Brinson is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Hired as part of the Blugold Commitment, I began teaching at UWEC in Fall 2012. Prior to joining the faculty at Eau Claire, I taught at Grinnell College for two years and at UW-Madison during graduate school. I earned my Ph.D. in Sociology from UW-Madison in 2010 with a minor in Journalism and Mass Communication.
My research and teaching interests span Sociology, Communication, Media Studies, and Political Science. I specialize in generations and social change, cultural sociology, political sociology, civil society and civic engagement, media, and political communication. My primary research is on generational change in attitudes about same-sex marriage, and the second concerns civic recreation and the changing American civic repertoire. I teach introductory courses in both Sociology and Communication/Journalism, along with Sociological Research Methods, Sociology of Culture, Social Movements, Diversity in Communication, and Political Communication.
