An infection is caused by the bacteria salmonella typhimurium. The disease is spread via contaminated foods. Normally the cause is raw or undercooked eggs, poultry, animal feces, or meat.
Symptoms of the illness last from four to seven days. Most people recover without needing medical treatment.
To prevent an infection you should not eat raw or undercooked eggs, poultry, and meat. You should also wash your hands before and after handling these foods.
