Firefighting can be a carreer or simply a hobby. Becoming a full time firefighter involves attending school and getting a degree in a topic such as fire science. Some firefighters may attend a four year university or a technical college to recieve this degree. Extensive training is also done in order to become a full time firefighter. A great job with great rewards takes a lot of hard work to get into.

 

Firefighting can also be completely volunteer. Most townships and county fire departments are volunteer fire departments. Volunteer firefighters must still go through some training and classes but not nearly as extensive as a full time firefighter would. Volunteer firefighters work just as hard as the full time firefighters. The difference between the two is the schedules. Volunteer firefighters are on call 24/7 unlike full time firefighters who work a California style shift.

 

Firefighting is a very rewarding job yet very dangerous. Usually a family is developed within a fire hall. Each firefighter has a duty to protect and serve to each other firefighter and the community. If a firefighter were to ever get into danger, the department would do anything and everything it could to save that single firefighter. A fire department is a strong community among the U.S.
