Oaxaca Weaving Villages
Teotitlán del Valle
is a highly specialized weaving town in which most families earn most or
all of their income from weaving rugs. The Zapotec tapete (rug)
designs have been changed and augmented over time, but the traditional
"diamond" and "mitla" patterns are of Indian origins.
Many weavers use only natural dies made from seeds, beetles, and plants,
while others use manufactured chemicals.
