Khe Sanh Historical GIS Research Project |
|
Partly to prepare for upcoming research on the Khe Sanh battlefield, and partly to construct a spatial history on one segment of the Vietnam War, I am gathering as much historical information as possible on the Khe Sanh Region. My goal here is to construct a peoples history of the Khe Sanh Battlefield, using information from the pre-siege hill-fight engagements all the way to the post-siege engagements. I intend to take all of this information and put it into a Geographic Information System, then construct a series of maps that detail the history of the battlefield. In essence this is akin to a Stephen Ambrose type history, only in digital map format. For example, points on the map will contain information ranging from enemy locations, to artillery placements, to individual foxhole locations. The amount of information on the map really depends on how much information I can gather. If you are interested in participating in such research, just click on the map of interest below. Once you are on your map of interest, click on each section for a more detailed map. Print this out, sketch your notes, and then email or mail the maps you used to me using my contact information below. If you’d rather work with a larger map, contact me, specify the bounding coordinates, and I can send you a large plotted out map to work with. The coordinates are the numbers located along the edge of the map. |
