 DEENA DROSSIN RUNS AWAY WITH WOMEN's 8K

Deena Drossin successfully defended her US 8K harrier title leading from start to finish. Nine-time US champion Lyyn Jennings shadowed Drossin over the first 3K, but Drossin broke away in the 4th K. 1995 US champ Joan Nesbit and Jenn Rhines paced the chase pack. Drossin soloed the second half of the race - stretching her lead to 150 meters - andwining by a whopping 28 seconds. Lynn Jennings held on for 2nd place, followed by Joan Nesbit, Jenn Rhines and Donna Garcia. Six runners contested for the 6th and final World Champs team spot over the last 2K lap, with Carmen Ayala-Troncoso prevailing on the final sprint.
