Student FAQs About People Pages


TopWhat is the people Web pages site?

Space for faculty, staff and students to develop their own professional Web space is now available in one location - http://people.uwec.edu. Existing curricular sites will be combined in this space so that all "people" sites at UW-Eau Claire can be found in one location.

TopHow do I get an account?

Use the "Web Accounts" link in the People site to create your Web space. Once your account is created, you will receive an e-mail message with details about access to your space.

You can also use this link, once your site is completed, to add it to the A-Z list. The same link can be used if you should ever want to remove the A-Z listing.

Top What are the required page style elements?

Because UW-Eau Claire takes no responsibility for the content of these pages, there are no "style" requirements. There are no other style requirements. However, it is highly recommended that you include an ID block on the bottom of all your pages. On the bottom of the default home page you get when your site is initially created, you will find an example.

Top What other requirements must I follow?

Web Page authors take full responsibility for their Web pages. These responsibilities are described in general below. See the UW-Eau Claire WWW General Guidelines for more detailed information.

  • Publishers must comply with local, state, and federal laws, including copyright laws
  • Publishers should keep their information up to date
  • People Pages are not to be used for personal or commercial use.
  • Web publishers must follow the UW-Eau Claire Computer and Network Usage Guidelines. Inappropriate or unacceptable use, as defined in these guidelines, may result in the revocation of site privileges.
  • Official campus graphics, such as the seal and wordmark, are allowed but not required on Student Professional Pages. If used, however, publishers must follow the UW-Eau Claire Web Graphics guidelines.
  • All pages must meet current standards for Web accessibility.

TopHow can I found out more about accessibility requirements?

As a public institution of higher learning, we are are required to take appropriate steps to ensure that our public Web sites are universally accessible by all persons, including those without access to high speed Internet connections, those who do not have the latest computer technology, and those persons using special technology such as screen readers for the sight impaired. Please check out our section on Accessible Web Pages for more information on how your pages can satisfy this requirement.

Top How much disk space is my site allowed?

You are allowed up to 25 mb of disk space for your site. A quota system protects the space from overuse.

Top How long will my site be available?

Your pages will be removed at the same time your other computing resources, such as email accounts, are removed. If you wish to retain your work, it is your responsibility to copy files to a different resource prior to that time.
