Journal Philosophy

The Journal of Undergraduate Kinesiology Research was originally established to create publication opportunities for students at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  The journal has since been expanded to include collaborative faculty-student undergraduate research from other institutions.  We are committed to enhancing the educational experience of undergraduate students in the field of Kinesiology by offering a professional journal exclusively dedicated to undergraduate, Kinesiology-related research.  In addition to providing a viable source of publication for undergraduate scholarly activity, the journal also exposes the undergraduate student to the peer-review and publication process.  Presently, the Journal of Undergraduate Kinesiology Research is published semi-annually in an online format.  Because of the online-nature of the journal, our publication space is virtually unlimited, and therefore a specific rejection rate is unnecessary.  Only those studies with fatal methodological flaws will be rejected outright.  Our ultimate goal is to eventually bring the quality of submitted manuscripts to a level suitable for publication.  Ideally, our aim is to publish all submitted manuscripts with two or fewer revisions.

Review Process

Authors will receive a confirmation letter upon receipt of submitted manuscripts and the editorial office will assign manuscripts for review by at least two external reviewers knowledgeable with the topical area of your research.  Submissions failing to adhere to the journal formatting guidelines (see link) will be returned to authors for further revision and will need to be resubmitted prior to being formally assigned for peer-review.   Reviewers for the Journal of Undergraduate of Kinesiology Research are asked to complete their review within four weeks.  Based upon the reviewer’s comments, you will receive a letter via e-mail indicating that your manuscript has been:

 ·Accepted for publication

 ·Accepted with minor revisions

 ·Request for major revisions

 ·Rejected based on methodological flaws

To expedite the review process we will request that you respond to reviewer comments and resubmit your manuscript with the appropriate revisions within four weeks.  Failure to adhere to this timeline will result in the manuscript being withdrawn from consideration to be published in the journal.  Currently the Journal of Undergraduate Kinesiology Research is published semi-annually on May 10 and December 10.  Deadline for publication is acceptance of the manuscript by mid-April and mid-November each year.
