Rep. Kucinich's co-authored bill, H.R. 676, is his health care plan entitled United States National Health Insurance (USNHI)
Kucinich's plan:
- Provides universal care to all Americans by giving every person a card with a specific number for them.
- The health care system would convert to a not-for-profit system in a 15-year span through the sale of U.S. Treasury Bonds.
Kucinich's plan would cover:
- Primary care
- Outpatient & Inpatient care
- Emergency Room visits
- Prescription drugs
- Mental health
- Dental coverage
- Basic vision care
USNHI would provide universal care by:
- Reducing paperwork in the health care field. A problem health care providers solve by maintaining administrative staffs that use up 31% of total cost of health care -- a savings of up to $350 billion per year.
- Reducing the cost of medications
- Increasing taxes for the top 5% of income earners
- Instituting a payroll tax
