Sen. Obama's Plan for a Healthy America:
- Ensures quality health care coverage for everyone
- Allows individuals and small businesses an opportunity to buy coverage similar to federal employee plans.
- Would form a National Health Insurance Exchange to allow individuals a choice to be covered privately.
- Allow for the typical American family to save up to $2,500 a year.
- Guarantees the coverage of the estimated nine million children uninsured in the United States immediately.
Sen. Obama's Plan for a Healthy America would provide affordable health care coverage by:
- Expanding Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)
- Requiring employers to help pay for their employee's health care costs
- Requiring all insurers to accept all applicants who apply and not charge more based on pre-existing conditions.
- Lowering the cost of prescription drugs by importing safe drugs from other countries and the use of generic drugs in public programs.
