Installing an Operating System |
Verify
your hard drive size: make sure you have at least 20-25 GB to run the
operating system, and enough room for your programs and media. Open Disk Management (tab on Computer Management in XP and Vista).
Shrink the volume to create a new partition (right click on the disk you wish to shrink)
Use the New Simple Volume option by right clicking the unallocated space.
In the new Simple Volume Wizard, assign a letter to the drive, choose a file format (NTFS is default and recommended), name the volume, and perform a quick format. Repeat OS Installation instructions to install a new Operating System to this partition. You can modify the boot options by following this path: My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup & Recovery. Use this page to choose a default OS and set the time the options are shown during startup. |
