Elective Assignment—Web Instructional Strategy
Topic Hotlist
This topic hotlist is directed toward the fifth or sixth grade level within the Social Studies content area. The hotlist could be used within a single lesson, but the lesson itself is part of a larger unit plan. The students will be able to use this topic hotlist as a resource for creating informational brochures. After discussing and exploring the links below students will gather information regarding the Gold Rush and create their own informational brochure to share with the class.

Journeys of the Forty-niners—Shows several different routes that were taken to California
Timelines:
Gold Rush Timeline—Orders events from the era of the Klondike Gold Rush
Gold Rush Stories—Orders events from the era of the Alaskan Gold Rush
The First Goldfields—Orders events from the first gold found until 1896
California Gold Rush Timeline—Presents a California Gold Rush timeline with images
Brochure Tips:
Brochure Printing Tips—Offers helpful tips on creating a brochure
Virtual Resource Centre—Suggests ways to start and enhance a brochure
