Currently, a combination of factors have been believed to lead to Autism. Most importantly is the genetic factor. Identical twins are much more likely (50%) than fraternal twins (12%) or siblings (2-4%) to both have Autism.
Other possible causes that have been suspected, but not yet proven involve diet, digestive tract changes, mercury poisoning, vaccine sensitivity, and vitamins & minerals.
