- Dave is an eleven-year boy placed in an orphanage in New York’s cruel Hebrew Home for boys after the tragic death of his father. Dave plunges into two different worlds. During the day, he faces the harsh reality of cold and harsh treatment at the orphanage. At night, Dave daringly jumps over the fence to escape to the atmosphere of the Harlem Renaissance, which is full of lively jazz music, writers, musicians, and a world of freedom. Perhaps, somewhere along his journey of discovery, Dave will breakthrough to find a place to truly call home.
